Samsung says Galaxy S4 sales hit 10 million

Demand for the Galaxy S4 has been high enough to set a new sales record for Samsung Electronics, with 10 million handsets sold in the shortest period of time.

The tech giant announced on Thursday that it took just 27 days to hit the mark since sales began on April 26, equivalent to one handset being sold every four seconds. Its predecessor, the S3, required 50 days to reach the same mark, while the S2 needed five months and the original S seven months.

The latest version of the hot-selling smartphone line is being sold in 60 countries worldwide. It will expand to 327 network providers in 155 countries within the first half of this year.

Meanwhile, Apple added the S4 to its patent infringement lawsuit against Samsung. Apple on Tuesday asked the U.S. District Court of Northern California to include it for violating five patents, including one related to Apple’s voice-operated Siri personal assistant.
