MILLIONS of Caterpillars Take Over London FOR REAL

There has got to be a Chinese Zen proverb somewhere in these pictures of those tiny little caterpillars covering the ENTIRE tree, and car, and pavement, and wall. But what happens when the caterpillars evolve? Invasion of the butterflies?

A freak plague of caterpillars has invaded a street in south London.

The bird-cherry ermine caterpillars, which are not harmful to humans, began to spin white weblike nests on the trees in Warfield Road, Hampton three weeks ago and have now covered walls, cars and pavements.

Resident Trisha Mole said: “You cannot help but feel they are doing damage to the trees.” A neighbour said: “We are picking caterpillars out of our hair and the kids’ hair. It’s just not on.”

Richmond council insisted there were no safe chemicals that could be used on the caterpillars. A spokesman said the feeding stage lasted about four weeks and the trees “recover quite quickly once the caterpillars pupate and the adults start to fly”.

This Might Be the New Budget iPhone

New iPhone 5S (also referred to as iPhone 6) rumors emerge just about daily. One rumor that just won't die concerning the next iPhone is that it will be a budget model with plastic body. Over the weekend these rumors were strengthened as a set of leaked photos appeared on the web showcasing a plastic iPhone with a lightening connector attached, presumed to be the next budget iPhone!

Apple's reputation for only releasing products at prices that are generally considered a premium over competing devices has softened in recent years with the release of music player alternatives to the iPod such as the iPod Nano, and more recently the wallet-friendly iPad mini. However, bringing such price alternatives to the company's flagship product, the iPhone, has never been considered a likely move, until now. 

Just months after rumors surfaced that Apple might be releasing a new, lower cost version of the iPhone, photos have emerged that depict what could be the device's casing. Posted to China's version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, the photos show a shiny, black curved backing, much like the iPhone 3GS, situated in what appears to be a matte-black frame. At the bottom of the device is what appears to be Apple's new Lightning cableconnector. Of course, as with all leaks from China, this could simply be one of the many well-crafted smartphone bootlegs that often hail from the region.

Some may view a possible low-cost option for the iPhone as move that would fly in the face of the company's long-term, premium price strategy for its leading product. But as Apple sharpens its focus on its fastest growing market, Asia, the expected low-cost move could help the company boost sales in the region, where the device is simply too expensive for a large portion of the market in China and India, thus boosting sales of cheaper knock-offs, as well as Android alternatives.

The word in tech circles is that the rumored device is scheduled for release in the fall, but we could hear something as soon as next week during Apple's WWDC conference.

With the help of ad agency JWT, the medical facility is touting chemo to a “superformula” for kids that can help them overcome cancer. Rather than have kids stare at a cold, sterile chemotherapy bag, the Cancer Center has concealed the treatment inside colorful cases with logos from Batman, Superman, and other DC Comics heroes.

24-Carat Gold-Plated iPads Offered at World's Only 7-Star Hotel

The sail-shaped Burj Al Arab hotel in Dubai, where rooms start at $1,525, is expanding the category of luxury accessories by providing all guests with a 24-karat gold iPad upon check-in. The hotel, part of the Jumeirah group of hotels and resorts, is often listed as the world’s most luxurious hotel and already provides iMacs in each of its 202 suites.

Dubai: Luxury usually comes in different shapes, sizes, flavours, colours and a varied degree of warmth. However, at Burj Al Arab, it comes in gold plated devices – in the form of 24-carat iPads!

Burj Al Arab — one of the world’s ultra-luxury hotels, last week introduced 24-carat gold plated iPads for its in-house guests — to access services. It has also introduced iMacs in suites.

This makes Burj Al Arab, where rooms start at $1,525, the first hotel in the world to offer the Interactive Customer Experience (ICE) software available on the 24-carat gold iPads.

“The 24-carat gold iPads, designed specifically for Burj Al Arab and engraved with the hotel’s logo, will be offered to every guest upon check-in,” the hotel announced on Sunday. “The guests will be able to use the 24-carat gold iPad as a “virtual concierge” and — at the touch of the button — access both information and the extensive selection of hotel services, such as the Guest Services Directory, detailed descriptions of Burj Al Arab’s restaurant options and spa menu, as well as private dining, butler and housekeeping services, among many other options.”
